I've tried something similar I think, Bach's Rescue Remedy?

I think it's all in the mind 'I'm taking this so I'll be calm.. I am calm.'
But that's just me.

I have used it in the past and it seemed to help.

I would say it will only work if you believe it will work - I'm almost positive 80% of the effect these things have is a placebo.. Nothing herbal will cure acute anxiety (my dad tries to get me to take all this herbalist nonsense and it really does bugger all). If you really want to relax I suggest crushing a couple of valiums into a shot of whisky and downing it (well maybe this might be taking it a little far :redface: ) - have a couple of beers or something in any case...

dead on there - the use of herbal medicines should never be encouraged.

Would you care to enumerate the reasons underpinning that assertion?

Having worked in a pharmacy for the past three years, I have seen many people coming in for herbal medicines. Many of these are very expensive and provide no clinical of evidence based medicine to support their use. When people have asked for "tonics" or "herbal medicines" I have never sold these. The owner of the pharmacy has tried relentlessly to discourage the use of these products - though many users of theses medicines are stubborn and refuse to believe the evidence shown before them.

A fair point, where genuinely applicable; though it would be arrogant to dismiss the fact that most (if not all) 'modern' medicines have had 'herbal' antecedents.

Regardless of whether herbal remedies are placebos or not, placebos very often work (clinically proven). I do actually use herbal stuff for some things, and find it works - and, tbh, I don't really mind if it *is* "all in the mind" - something makes me better! :smile:

Willow Bark > Salicylic Acid > Aspirin
St Johns Wort = Proven antidepressant in mild to moderate depression
Evening Primose Oil = Used in period problems (amongst other things)
Valerian = Sleeping aid

Don't be so quick to dismiss herbal remedies. If you're meaning homeopathic, then yes maybe there is a lot more sceptism involved. Hundreds of pharaceutical preparations are based on herbs, if not made from them. I worked in a pharmacy for a few years and herbal treatment is not always appropriate, but can often be useful.

Also, who are you not to sell things to people just because you don't think they should have them? Isn't that a bit nanny state like? Let people buy what they want!
