Is it possible to learn to drive in 3 months?

For someone learning from scratch and probably with slightly lower than average confidence in driving (I'm not going to be driving out of choice, put it that way!), is passing the test in 3 months realistic if I am having 3-4 lessons a week, as well as lots of private practice with a parent? I'm aware it's perfectly possible, but I wanted to know just how feasible it really is. I'm going to do my theory before starting driving lessions, so this may help a bit.

I ask because I stupidly didn't learn aged 17 like everyone else, and now I'm at uni it's not possible to learn apart from over the summer because I would need to commute home loads during term to get the private practice...

Any advice?

yeah definitely! 3-4 lessons a week is a hell of a lot, coupled with the private practice would give you enough experience imo.

But I think don't expect instant results - e.g. you won't be able to drive with your parents until you're fairly safe as a driver. Ask your instructor and when s/he thinks you're ready - just book the test.

Thanks very much!

Very realistic

I started learning in Jan and passed first time in March after 13 lessons.

I think its only realistic if you pass 1st, possibly 2nd time. Any more than that and the time between tests makes it very unlikely.

3-4 lessons a week is good you should be able to make pretty quick progress, just don't burn yourself out.

Like zebedee said, it will probably depend on how quickly you manage to pass a test. You can 'learn to drive' easily in three months, esp with the amount of practice you are looking at having, but the hard bit is actually passing your test. I know I went to pieces in every test I took so it took me ages because of that! If you are ok in test situations though it would be easier! You should be fine though as generally the rough estimate is about 30 hours which you can fit in during three months, but plan on it taking longer than the 30 hours and then if you pass before its better!

Yes its possible - at 3-4 lessons a week you will prob get bored after 3 weeks.

I passed first time after 3 months - though it did involve a lot of practicing and much torment for my older sister each day!!

Someone else in my year passed after only two months - but he was determined!!

My birthday was on 4th August and I passed (second time) on 3rd November, was on holiday for two weeks too, so yes, it's extremely possible.

Yeah, true.

I passed first time after about 1 and a half months containing 15 hrs lessons.

I've been driving off road since I was 12 tho....

3-4 lessons a week for 3 months is a quite a lot, I'm sure you'll be fine

Just to re-iterate what everyone else has said - yeah, its definately possible! But be sure that you check how long the back logs are on practical tests in your area. When I was doing my test, there was a backlog of 6 weeks! Gotta book early!

Yup, possible to pass in 3 months, i passed in 3 months with arond one lesson a week.
as ghost says, u need to book early becuase of the backlogs

If you do 3 lessons a week, you'd have done 36 lessons. If you do 4 lessons a week, you'd have done 48 lessons. Both of which should be plenty enough, especially if you're doing extra practice. I'm hoping to have passed after about 30 lessons, and with the odd bit of separate practice.

Perhaps, it all depends on naturally good you are at driving.

I passed in exactly 3 months however had been riding on a 50cc (*ahem 79cc) motorbike for a year before hand.

Not sure if i'd have been able to do it without the previous experience. I had 20 hours of lessons.

It's definitely possible. I know someone who had about 20 lessons and practised a lot with his parents and passed in 2 months!

You can't set yourself a time limit though, everyone is different and not everyone is going to instantly become a confident and safe driver, no matter how much practice you get.

Yes, this is definately possible. No worries, just concentrate (but RELAX too)
