Lonely in London - looking for friends

Have you checked what events are on at your student union, or if they have any societies you would like to join? They can be a great way to meet people. My uni also organises group volunteering, there might be something similar if you have a look

Hey,

hope all is well - I've been living in London since September and it's been quite lonely because of the uni and living arrangements that I am in. I was just wondering if anyone else felt like this? I was just looking for like minded people so hopefully we could change our situation and be friends lol?

I'm a 20 year old male who likes to socialize and just have a good time with people, I am also interested in different cultures and religion that people might have.

Thanks, Ben

I'm in the same situation. Been living near Brunel uni since October but don't know anyone around here (I'm not at the uni, I'm on a placement) Anyone else in the area?

Oh, I can understand. I just graduated from Birkbeck, and it is a place where one sometimes might feel lonely due to the nature of the university / evening study / many mature students etc. What course are you doing?

English Literature and Theatre Studies. Same here - loved the course, teaching was amazing but I was by FAR the youngest on my course, most of the others had full-time jobs, children etc. and hardly any interest in doing much outside the course.

Have you been to the ULU bar? I went on my own a couple of times on a Friday or Saturday - it's so busy, and people are so friendly, it's quite easy to meet new people, I found. Also, I found joining ULU societies a lot more sociable than joining Birkbeck ones, mainly because you meet more people from other universities who are more your age.

Yeah but it's kind of a vicious circle, you want to do it, but then your by yourself then you dont want to do it coz you believe that it won't work out :/ how old were you when you went?

Yes, I can understand. :frown: It's difficult.
Do you at least live in a flatshare with similarly aged people? Do you have a part time job you can meet people through?

I had taken a gap year, so just turned 20 when I started Birkbeck. I think I met most people through the place I worked in a couple of days per week, that was quite helpful. I can pretty much count the times I socialised with people from my course on one hand.

I can understand how a job would help the situation, i'm trying to look for one so hopefully it won't be so bad - i'm 20 also as I took a gap year aswell, the people in my class arn't really the most socialble either.. hm, just going round in circles.
