Why do people not like it when you view yourself as god's gift?

I was in a Gym and was watching my beautiful face in the mirror when this guy was watching me.

Subsequently we passed each other when trying to get weights from the gym and he did not give me way.

I know this is rather trivial but I can't think of a reason.

Was he jealous of my looks or did he view himself as better looking?
