do u ever get over your first love?

hey...i'm sure this has been done before, but the search was rubbish and wouldn't include the words 'first' 'still' 'always' 'never', so basically found everythingo with the word love in it!! if any1 knows where the original thread is coul u point me to it please?

anyway...basically i want to know...

have u ever got over ure first love, how many years has it been and how many new relationships have u been in since??

by first love, i mean the first serious relationship u've had where u actually seriously thought u might marry them...

il always remember my first boyfriend even tho he wasnt my "first" or my first love. Jus the silly things that make me remember him. Like playing nintendo basically led to hugs and kisses an it always did, an we knew it lol

hmm id say no. deep down you always still like them. even if you are over them, there is still something there. might be a deep sense of caring for them though? if you really thought you would marry them there must have been something there quite strong...

unless it was an obsession with some random guy i dont think you truly ever get over them.x

in my experience no. you move on but theres always something there. that is as long as you're not the kind of person who falls in and out of love around 3 or 4 times a week, I just don't think that that can be called love.

I think that was very eloquently put, Feefifofum. I am definitely over my first serious love but it still hurts to think about our breakup, even though it was two years ago (almost to the day). I would never want to go back to our relationship or get back with him in the present day but I think I would still feel a pang if he was to turn up and declare undying love.

my first love was this girl. We never said anything but I did really like her. After junior school we went to different school and lost contact. 6 years later I found out she had passed away with leukaemia. For me I can never get over it

It's hard to describe isn't it? I'm completely in love with my boyfriend now, but I found my first bloke's Myspace three days ago and definitely felt a bit of a tug. I s'pose I miss being that thoughtlessly crazy about someone; you never love as fully as before you've been hurt :frown:

Having said that, I love my fella all the more because I know what it's like to be in a bad relationship, so you appreciate a good one all the more :biggrin:

Sometimes you try to forget the things you don't want to remember and try to remember the things you don't want to forget. The trouble is it's never usually the case. In terms of getting over someone, if you truly loved them once and it ended on good terms then you'll remember that person for the rest of your life. I've felt the "this is the one" vibe and held it there but somehow it all fell down.
