EPQ word limit?

hey, i was just wondering whether people knew how strict the EPQ word limit is for the long written report. I know its meant to be around 5,000 words, but mine is more like 6,500 at the moment. Ive told my teacher about this and he said it was fine, but i'd be pretty annoyed if i believed him and he was wrong about it.

My teacher has said the same thing to those doing an EPQ. Apparently the word limit is quite lenient for those who go over. Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do yours and what's it on?

im glad to hear that. i started researching last summer but the actual writing part im not sure, i kind of would write most of it in two days (but in pretty poor quality) then write other random bits in like two day bursts and then realised that it was a mess and had to go back over it :s-smilie: its just about done now, but i did most of it over the christmas holidays.
mine is about whether the author's intention is more important the reader's interpretation (hoping to study english lit)
what about you?

From the spec at http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/projects/aqa-certificate/EPQ-7993
All Project products must include a written report of
between 1000 and 5000 words. The exact length of
each written report will depend on the nature of the
project, the subject area or topic chosen and the
other evidence provided.
A project which consists solely of written work should
be approximately 5000 words, for example a research
report of an investigation, exploration of a hypothesis
or an extended essay or academic report in
appropriate form. Projects where the majority of the
evidence is provided in other formats should include a

The are no penalties mentioned for exceeding 5000words. I think 6500 would be OK.
report which is at least 1000 words.

I think that's short. Aim to be no more than 10% below the word limit.
