Imagine that you want to sell a service or a product to a potential interested party but you have this fear that they might take the thing away from you; how do you manage to ensure that thing that you've created would never get taken? What if they want to know more on the internal workings of the service/product? How would you respond?

Ever heard of Intellectual Property? Basically it allows people who have created something to have exclusive rights to it. I'm not sure exactly how it works (since I've never really needed to know).

If someone copied my product, I would respond by adding new features which the competitor's product doesn't have and maybe use aggressive marketing.

The thing is, I believe it's likely that your competitor would respond to it as well, depending on the industry, so you would need to consistently formulate a strategy to keep at least one step ahead of your competitor.
