By curly arrows show the oxidation of ethanol to ethanoic acid. reagents are hydrogen cation and dichoromate six anion (H^+/Cr2O7^2-).


May you help me in working out that.

It's just a standard Jones oxidation!

Of course its Jones' oxidation but how is the reaction by curly arrows . Much information is given about chromate ion (CrO4^2-) but what of Dichromate ion?

Here's a nicely drawn mechanism with chromic acid. Chromate, dichromate and chromic acid are all in equilibrium in aqueous acid but the mechanism between them really is unimportant - if you want to draw one I guess just go for something like an ester hydrolysis.

You get from the aldehyde to the carboxylic acid via the acetal, it goes via the exact same mechanism.
