Thumbsuckers unite!

I've tried giving up a million times but I just can't be bothered now. It's a source of comfort. It's my most well-kept secret, only my family knows!

If I'd made that post you can bet your life I'd have forgotten to check "anonymous"... :p:

I am 18 and i still suck my thumb, and my teeth are really ****ed up because of it! I actually have teh worst smile ever!
But when i was little i used to do it all the time, now i only ever do it at night and some nights i dont suck my thumb at all.
But i think eventually you will fall out of the habbit?

Okay, the embarrasing bit:
I'm seventeen and i still suuck my thumb...
does anyone else on here still do it? is it weird?

and should i give up? part of me wants to because i know it's odd at this age, another part of me doesn't because it's a comfort thing and it helps sometimes. does it make me a freak and should i give up?
(my teeth arent affectd by it at all luckily.. ive got a bit of a lump on the thumb but nothing major)
Thanks

Theres a girl in my year at school (upper sixth) who still sucks her thumb and she hasn't grown out of it at all - even when shes driving and waiting in traffic you can see her sucking her thumb. You're very lucky thumbsucking hasn't affected your teeth. My orthodontist told me the majority of his patients suck/sucked their thumbs and I suppose it's a comfort thing.

Everyone needs that sometimes, don't they? When you've had a really sh*tty day and your emotions are over the place and you just feel down and stuff.

Yes but most of the time it's just done for no reason at all. A lot of the time one doesn't even realise one's doing it at all. It's just become a habit.

If I were you, I'd stop. It looks absolutely ridiculous in the first instance and while it might still just about be permissible as a teenager, do you really still want to be doing it in your 30s/40s? I doubt it. And not all of your boyfriends may be so understanding. As for needing something to calm you down after a bad day, try normal things for people of our age, like music or chocolate or talking to someone....

By the age of 18 I'm thinking it might be too late...

Doesn't anyone think it's cute. I would like it if my next gf sucks her thumb because then we can watch tv cuddled up together and suck our thumbs :p:

i used to suck my fingers (my first two fingers on y right side)

mum tried everything to get me to stop but she couldnt... until one day i THINK it struck me when i saw a mate from a few years back who used to suck his thumb....and his teeth were stuck out like something from a horror film. I stopped immediately.

Maybe you should read up on the effects it can have to your teeth

worked on me!

It can be endearing if the person is asleep at the time; less so when they're fully conscious.

For a female it's kinda cute, for a male it would be just weird. So you're OK.

Nah it's cool. Feel free to cuss people on the internet a bit more if it makes you feel better

Goodbye, loser.

Ok.. if all the mentioned reasons are not enough ,, It is disgusting, sorry, think of HOW MUCH bacteria you have your thumb and you are just sucking on it.. Your have more bacteria on your hands than on your feet! honeslty.. it is not good, its dirty .. you need to stop it

I'm 19 and I do. I manage not to do it in front of others (unless you count my g/f, who - I think - finds it kind of cute), but it is very tempting to just because I feel the need.
If I find myself needing to particularly badly, I just head off to the loos and do it in one of the cubicles (I know toilets aren't the cleanest of places - but at least they're private!).
The wierd thing is... I didn't start till I was about 10.

I ts when I'm ill, going to sleep or stressed; or when I'm in gf's arms (Call me weird, but somehow, it adds to the closeness of the bond... in a perverse way.)

tbh sucking on a t*t is weird if you are doing it to fall asleep...
I don't think so... I don't do it myself, but if it helps then do whatever!

Hate to break it to you, but it's actually your mouth that harbours most of the bacteria. (MRSA comes from a bacteria that lives in peoples' noses and throats.)
