I don't know if this is a stupid question but here goes:

If zero is an infinite/undefined number, how can 1/2 or 0.5 be exactly halfway between zero and one?

Zero is the chance of Manchester United ending up with a trophy this year, or a UKIP government. So it can be defined.

How isn't 0 defined?
If you get 0 on a test, is your score undefined? Nope, you got 0.

Are you getting confused by the statement "1/0 is undefined"?

0 is a real number.

In algebra: 0 is the smallest nonnegative integer, but is rational number as well real number, and complex number too

In set theory: 0 is the cardinality of the empty set and the lowest ordinal number
(when empty set is wieved as well-ordered-set)

In abstract algebra: 0 is the zero element, which is the neutral element for addition
and absorbing element for multiplication (if defined in structure)
