Whenever number 10 is on the news people seem to be wandering in all the time.... How are they allowed, the door seems to be opened to anyone..

What are they doing, how can David be seeing all of them?

Govern the country maybe? They'll be ministers, civil servants, politicians, advisers, ect, going for various meetings.

That or all our Pm's just pay people to walk in and out so they look busy. Maybe Cameron just sits around playing Angry Birds?

Why can't they govern the country from their office rather than wandering into David's house

Because the country is primarily governed by the senior cabinet and Prime Minister - who usually meet in David Cameron's office because that's where everything is.

It's not his house. He has a flat at the top. The vast majority of Number 10 is essentially a working government department.

10 Downing Street has a central doorknob and no keyhole. You cannot gain admission from the outside, You have to be let in. That isn't a security precaution but a reflection that houses on this scale would always have had servants present.

10 Downing Street is much bigger than it looks on the TV because it is effectively two (arguably three) houses connected back to back; one facing Downing Street and the other Horse Guards.

The Downing Street house was jerry built and has had major structural problems since it was built. It was out of action for much of Macmillan's premiership (Admiralty House was used instead) but despite those repairs much further work had to be done in the latter years of Margaret Thatcher's time.

Osborne lives in the 10 Downing Street flat. Cameron, like Blair, occupies no 11. That is par for the course; fewer than half the PMs have lived in 10 Downing Street.

Churchill was the last PM to live in the state rooms. Only Callaghan, Thatcher and Brown have lived en famille in the house in the last 40 years. Wilson lived in his own Westminster house. Major's family lived at Great Stukeley.
