Hi

I did A level maths using c1-c4, s1 and m1. I also did d1 (yuk). I began working towards FM AQA but the books on the web site are awful (IMO) and I ended up buying the Edexcel FP1 and FP2 which I'm finding much more to my liking.

Questions

Is it permissible to do FM with Edexcel if I've done A level with AQA?

I presume my D1 is then thrown away and I suspect I'd have to redo Edexcel D1, assuming I can't get my head round the mechanics modules, but is D1 AQA and Edexcel content similar or have I loads more to do?

Thanks

Personally I would stick with AQA

However - you would need to contact Edexcel to check if this is possible
The D1 content is not the same across the 2 boards

Thanks for your reply.

I will get in touch with Edexcel but why would you recommend that I stick with AQA if I could go with Edexcel?

Their FM is a perfectly good qualification

There would be no issue with any module crossover

The online books provide plenty of examples and questions

There are plenty of past papers and mark schemes

Sticking with the same board would allow the re-distribution of modules if needed

I see no advantage at all in changing

Fair enough.

I have worked through FP1 book by AQA which was perfectly fine but when I did the FP3 from the web I found that it wasn't sufficient for me (self teaching). Perhaps first using the Edexcel books and then returning to the AQA ones will help me better with the AQA FP3. I don't have to make up my mind about exams for ages or even at all.

I am not bothered about redistributing modules for better grades as I have no intention of doing anything with the maths except enjoy doing it (I'm an OAP).

I have contacted Edexcel and await their reply (could be longer than 5 days, their auto reply says).

Thanks - you've managed to give me a path.

The content across fp2and3 is the same for both boards ... So the edexcel books would help ... As long as you are taking both since they do not match as individual units

Hi TenOfThem

Here is the reply from edexcel. I thought that it might be of interest to you.

Hi Maggie,

Thank you for your email.

Yes, this is possible. You will need to ask the exams officer at the school/college where you will be sitting the exams to apply for a transfer of credit from your AQA Maths A Level.

Kind regards,
