In the Edexcel AS Religious Studies Foundations exam you have to choose 3 questions to answer out of the four sections and I know that its between utilitarianism and situation ethics, war and peace and sexual ethics, evil and suffering and miracles and cosmological and design.

I was wondering where does the religion and morality chapter fit in when choosing between questions? Which chapter is the alternative for it?

Thanks

I think it can either be situation ethics/utilitarianism/religion or morality
I'm doing a resit but last year situation ethics didn't come up.
What are you going to revise? Does you teacher have any predictions on what will come up?

Oh okay, thanks! My teacher has told me to revise all of the topics because then we can just choose which question is the easiest in case the ones that you have revised have really hard questions on them . That said I'm not going to revise miracles because I just really don't like that topic and would never pick it! We haven't been told any predictions yet, but if we do I'll let you know

I teach AS and A2 Religious Studies so I hope I can offer you some help.

If you feel you are stronger in one area than another, I would suggest that you DO NOT revise all the units. It is better to learn 5 topics really well.

For example if your strength lies in Philosophy of Religion you would learn:

Cosmological
Teleological
Problem of evil
(even though Cosmological and Teleological are above the line and you can only do one, they could combine these two in part (ii) So learn them!!)

Then answer two questions.

For Ethics learn:

Utilitarianism
Situation Ethics

I hope this helps you

Yes it is possible they can link both those topics together, albeit in a part (ii) question.

I was just wondering what question they asked when they combined design and cosmological previously as I cant find that question anywhere?

They have only combined them once, and this was in part (ii) where they asked candidates to compare the strengths and weaknesses of both arguments.

Would anyone be able to tell me if this made sense regarding situation ethics 'its teleological nature is concerned with the consequences of actions as acts are considered to be only instrumentally good by virtue of their results but are intrinsically good or bad in themselves'

I had wrote this in a previous essay I had done last year (I am resitting this AS exam) but now that ive read it again I don't think that makes sense..?

Any help is appreciated))

They're the 4 I've learnt very well. I'm also going to have a quick look over cosmological briefly today and tomorrow in case it's combined with design

Do you think it's likely they will combine design with cosmological as I haven't learnt cosmological
Also, do you think they may combine utilitarianism with situation ethics?

I've never heard of them combining design and Cosmo, but the question 3 I know is either utilitarianism, situation or morality but instead of leaving one topic completely out they've linked the part ii with two topics eg utilitarian and situation
