why would it be pervy??? those people are paid to photograph like anyone no?

its pervy if youre just going around taking photos of people in nightclubs without actually working for the club

when I go to clubs in bath the photographer is always the weird guy with no friends (because he's working at the club all the time), taking photos of people having fun, not creating it

its like the whole idea of club promoters being seen as leaching ********s

just looking for general opinions on how other people perceive it

It's pervy if you only take pictures of girls in short dress.

It's not pervy if you're doing your job. And not taking up-skirt shots.

Although I had a friend who was a nightlife photographer and he quit very soon because there was only so much he could take of a career based on watching people throw up in the club and embarrass themselves. However, to each their own right?

It's a good gig. Just don't be a **** about it.

If someone says "No thank you" to a photo, don't take it personally. I've heard one guy respond to a group "Well you're not good looking enough anyway"

Clubs usually hire people to do it, they use the photos for marketing and sometimes to make a bit of extra cash via merchandising. It's not just random people turning up and asking if they can take photos of strangers all night, at least I'm not aware of anywhere that's ever just let a photographer wander around.

My old flatmate worked as a club photographer while studying photography at uni in the "lovely" town of Bolton. From the sounds of things he spent most of his time avoiding being punched by drunk guys or groped by drunk women, neither of which are particularly pleasant when you're being paid to provide a certain quota of photos or carrying around a grand of camera gear around your neck. He stuck it out for a couple of months before deciding it wasn't worth the grief. More upmarket clubs in bigger cities would probably be better, but it sure as hell isn't always a a walk in the park of a job.

You're right I'd be working for a club - maybe a good one in Bournemouth (bonsai lounge, halo), but is it a particularly cool job, like a bartender? Or not?

Obviously, "what do you do?" "I'm a photographer" is cool but you can't get a girls number cause you're working...

So,

-
Long hours
Annoying people
Club music
Not having as much fun because you have to 'work' - your friends go clubbing and you take pictures of them

+
You know everyone there (status)
You get paid
You have some fun
