Gay friendly universities???

Gay friendly universities??? I just want some peace and quiet. I don't even want any friends or partying or any of the crap that uni is made up of. Just a place where I can get my work one and get a proper grade minus the insults and discrimination. Sometime I wonder if even that's too much to ask... Any suggestions ppl?

Well, you might find uni alot more difficult to manage if you don't make the effort to be friendly and at least go out a bit. That would be where the problem lies, not your sexual orientation. On another note, there will ALWAYS be some stupid homophobic idiot wherever you go, but for every one idiot there's gonna be a load of lovely people who couldn't care less which gender you prefer and like you as a person. Also, people are, for the most part, more mature at uni, and will not discriminate. I can't give you a recommendation of "gay friendly" unis, but I can say that there are some really awesome gay clubs/bars in Brighton and Manchester.

Brighton is known for its gay community and people are welcoming down there. Hopefully i get accepted there after my interview in feb but i highly recommend you research the uni and the brighton community because i think you'll be greatly accepted regardless of who you are. Failing brighton - try winchester: its quiet and small = no hassle
Hope this helps

Keele has a pretty active Gay society, i know one of the people who run it.

Im straight, but I don't have a problem with gay people
Yeah, Sussex or Brighton uni's are the obvious ones. Brighton has a big gay scene given the size of the city, and Sussex LGBT society is supposedly pretty good/big compared to others.

To be honest you'll probably be fine at most universities, Britain is a pretty tolerant place.
Mine beats up gays all the time - the chancellor recommends it for intra-mural sport.

Ha! Ha! Even funnier...
I would have said somewhere in London but if you dont' want friends and a social life, it's not a good choice. I'm at LSE and I know a gay couple that met during freshers week.

I wish I'd gone there now! I do English (don't worry, I'm straight) and I don't have a problem with gays in general, but when they mince in and out of lectures and around campus it starts to get on my nerves. It's not something to be proud of, just like being straight isn't.

So, let's start sterotyping.

Seriously, that's just out of order. It'd be like me saying that I'd like to hang all straight men because they drink loads and beat their wives / girlfriends.

I identify as gay, and the mincing pisses me off probably as much as it does you. However, I don't see my *dislike* of a certain type of behaviour as a justfication for prejudice or condoning violence against an entire group of people, many of whom don't even exhibit that kind of behaviour.

Come to Bristol. Plenty of gays there.

Seriously though, any large-ish uni will have a gay community. There are loads of people that 'come out' so to speak when they get to uni.
i hear that cambridge students are the gayest of them all, what with steven fry and all that jazz. i think that man is the king. the KING i say.

Quoted, would I get away with putting this in my sig, well I dont think so??

Gays are accepted across the country. But you are more likely to be at home in the larger cities where there is a gay community

Everyone has an LGBTC Society now

Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, a little Curious

People who make a deal out of being gay piss me off. You aren't any more special than everyone else, and the impression that you are going to be insulted and discriminated is pretty immature and insulting itself.

You aren't daffyd, everyone isn't against you.
It's a legitimate concern. If you go to the uni bar holding hands with your gay boyfriend and people aren't open to it, you could face harassment or even physical danger. It's not unheard of, particularly in less cosmopolitan areas.

I would not have thought that you would have had a problem at any major UK city. In all theres gay joints and communities. In addition i think our generation is much more open and accepting of the gays but wherever you are there will be a few Herman Goering's and Adolf Hitlers that are not as welcoming to the gay scene as others and may be offensive.
