I don't know why, but most of my female friends call me "Girly". Compared to the camp guys I've seen back in college, I really don't see myself as girly at all! I don't watch Glee like they do, I don't talk about celebrity gossips like they do, I don't use the phrase "Oh my gosh" every 5 mins, and I don't flick my wrist at the end of every sentence. For some reason they don't get called "girly", whilst I do! At one time I even raised the serious question of "Are those guys gay?", but every single female friend said that they were sure that those guys were straight.
Just today, I was going out to eat lunch with 3 girls. It was dim sum in Chinatown. When we were deciding what to eat, I simply said "I don't mind". Then one of the girls said "Oh you don't know what to eat, you are just like a girl~". I said "I don't mind" because I really didn't mind, and we get the same dim sums every time anyways. How does that make me girly?
Here are the few things that I do that I think is feminine:
1) I love cooking. Cooking sometimes is seen as a chore, but for me I see it as a hobby.Sometimes I spend 2 hours making dinner for me and my flatmate. It is relaxing for me to cook, I enjoy making food, and most of all I like it when people compliment me on my cooking.
2) I use facial masks. Unfortunately, I'm not born with good skin. That's why I'm trying everything so my skin can actually improve and hoping it can stop my acne break-outs every now and then.
3) I light scented candles in my room. I just find it relaxing. Plus I like playing with fire. So whenever I get bored of revision I just hover my fingers over the flame and it gets me concentrated again.
4) I'm not a confrontational person. I was a confrontational person back in primary and secondary school, but ever since then I've stopped. I don't like it when there is an argument going on, nor do I wish to get into one. The "flame" in me died down. But I guess it is just called growing up? Or is it being feminine? I don't know.
5) I talk a lot. I am a really talkative person if I am in a comfortable environment. When I'm with friends, it's like I have to say everything that comes out of my mind. Most of the times it is all fun and games, but sometimes I seriously offend people. Once my big mouth led me to a situation where I had a knife pointed at my private part, but we will get to that story another time.
6) I'm shy. I find large group situations kind of awkward, I prefer just going out with a group of 6-7 friends. When I'm at parties I kinda lack initiative to meet new people, simply because I find it awkward. But once you know me and I'm comfortable with you, I talk a lot.
7) I'm immature. I do admit that I'm childish, but even my male friends say that I am. I laugh at the most immature jokes, I like making immature jokes, and I prank my friends all the time.
What in your opinions make a guy "girly"? And what can I do to seem more "masculine"? It is kind of embarrassing when your female friends call you girly haha.
Thanks for the help!
