Google docs and referencing help

I was wondering if anyone had experience of using Google docs for academic writing, and whether they had figured out a good workaround for referencing tools?

I am considering getting a Chromebook, but I'm worried about how difficult it will be to use Google docs for writing large chunks of academic work, especially with regards to referencing and moving between MS Office and Google docs for writing (and the impact that might have on references if I am using e.g. Zotero or Refworks).

you should not be using anything other than LaTeX for writing academic documents. You could use this on a Chromebook though if you really wanted.

Thanks, but Word is perfectly fine for the work that I do. I'm not in a scientific field and LaTeX looks like it would get in the way of my thinking.
