Are a combination of drugs used together for this?

I cannot find it in the NICE guidelines. However my lecturers say so but not clearly.

Can anyone confirm?

Haven't covered this at uni yet, but the BNF seems to suggest that antipsychotics (for all indications) should not be co-prescribed: http://www.evidence.nhs.uk/formulary...sychotic-drugs (Section: Choices, Paragraph 6).

The NICE guidelines don't seem to mention much about the use of antipsychotic drugs in psychosis and schizophrenia: http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg17...ecommendations.

You should not co-prescribe multiple antipsychotics, although in practice, for very sick patients, I have seen up to three antipsychotics prescribed. For treatment refractory schizophrenia which is defined as failing at least two anti-psychotics ideally a typical and an atypical, we should be looking at a clozapine trial. I have not looked at the nice guidance for awhile but I do believe it does state to avoid prescribing multiple antipsychotics.
