Hey i was wondering what the difference between ultimate tensile stress and breaking stress.
I know that breaking stress is the stress that's big enough to break the material and UTS is the maximum stress the material can withstand.
So surely UTS is the point it breaks as it is the maximum it stands? Also on the graph how come UTS is a higher value than breaking stress if it breaks at breaking stress?
Thanks in advance!

At UTS, a little bit of stress produces a lot of strain, then eventually it breaks at the breaking stress.
