First holiday away with boyfriend, no idea where to go!

So me and my boyfriend (both 20) are planning on going away this summer together and need to really get it booked before revision and exams take over, but we are not sure where to go.
We would ideally like to spend between 200-300 for a week, and just want somewhere with a beach close by and plenty of restaurants and bars. Not looking for a club holiday but also don't want somewhere described only as "lovely and quiet". Need to find somewhere in between, where the option to have a bit of nightlife isn't completely off the cards.
Can anyone help with suggestions please? We originally wanted to go to Crete but it's looking like it's more of a family holiday - if you've been Crete any info also would be helpful!
