Are Oxbridge degrees better than others?

I can only answer for the companies I have recruited for, but yes, I am sure.

One of my friends got a Desmond and got into two different grad schemes, both for big names. If they like you at interview, they won't knock you back because you missed a grade by two marks or whatever.

These were FMCG and retail (head office) grad schemes

Are you sure about that? Look at the DoctorJob forum - several people have said they got a 2.2 and had their graduate contract in IB/consultancy/accounting etc immediately terminated, even if they were 1% off etc.

PS I did caveat that accountancy, banking and consultancy were a lot more picky.

What's an Oxbridge degree worth compared to a top 20 degree? I'd be very interested in seeing how other people perceive the value of some different degrees in comparison with each other in terms of employability, where employability is considered in terms of positions not requiring any specific subject. Rank these degrees in decreasing order of how valuable you think they'd be on the job market, any you're not sure about just miss out.

A. Maths, Leeds, 2.1
B. Philosophy & Economics, LSE, 2.1
C. Business Studies & Management, UWE, 1st (Former polytechnic in Bristol)
D. Maths, Oxford, 2.2
E. Classics & English Literature, Oxford, 2.1
F. Business Studies & Management, Leeds, 2.1
G. Maths, Coventry 2.1
H. Maths, Cambridge, 3rd

I don't think a third will ever be particularly admired by anyone - especially as so few people get them nowadays.
