Have literally no clue how everyone's preparing for placement year. Are we still paid from the sfe and if not what have people done to supplement their placement year. Also what are options if you don't get a placement?

These might be questions people already know, but I don't know who to ask at my Uni

Hi,

During a PTY funding is still available from SFE, but I think this is a reduced amount, unless you are working in a health, prison or local authority service.

A lot of placements are also paid - but this does vary a bit depending which course you are on. If your placement is unpaid, travel expenses are normally covered by the company.

Also if you are looking to do a placement in Europe, Erasmus grants are available.

If you really struggle financially the university also has a hardship fund, which you can apply for help from.

Hope this has helped.

Hi there
You can receive some finance from SFE during your Placement year, although this will be a reduced amount. Many placements are paid, and those who are not often are for 30 weeks for 4 days a week, meaning it is possible to get a part time job to supplement this. It might be worth discussing this with the placement team ([email protected] .uk) or contacting the careers service who can advise further.

If you decide not to do a placement, the option would be to continue on to final year, although this is worth discussing with your personal tutor as it varies from course to course.
