Hi everyone,

Between King's and Robinson, which do you think would be a better college choice in terms of accomodation? My main priority tbh is en-suite bathrooms, for all three years :P If it affects anything, I'd like to take Computer Science with Physics.

(And yes, I realize this is past the application deadline...I'm planning ahead :P)

Hey, I had en-suite every year at King's. Robinson is pretty good for en-suite rooms as well though I think.

I'll add that my second year King's room was not only en-suite but had a balcony overlooking the gardens and a bit of the chapel, and my third year room had two floors so I effectively had my own sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. If that influences your decision...

Hmmm the whole day was really good and everyone was absolutely lovely. Not sure about the actual interview process lol.
The discussion was great , definitely my strongest bit - so glad they decided to have that element. The test was... ok up until the definitions where my brain went out the window  I loved analysing the statements before though.
The interview was confusing... everyone-else came out really shaken and almost unable to speak, saying it was really tough, but I found it reasonably enjoyable until after when I thought back and was like oh dear I don't think I really went in depth enough or was challenged as much as I perhaps should have been had they thought I was a strong candidate :s-smilie:. But in all honesty I really don't feel that my poetry analysis in the discussion was sub-standard at all, in fact I was quite proud of it...

Sooo I'm not sure if the reason I found it enjoyable was because I just genuinely enjoyed the discussion and so didn't notice them pushing me or said enough things that they didn't feel they needed to, or because they gave up and decided I didn't have any potential... argh lol.

Every year? Sounds promising...there's a ballet for the second and third year, right? Do you know where you were on it?

And yes, that does influence my decision...I really would rather apply to King's than Robinson, I think, even just because it's so much prettier. :p:

Yeah there is a random ballot. It is done in second year and reversed in third year, so if you come top in second year you are bottom in thid, and if you come bottom in second year you are top in third. Most second years want to be nearer the bottom of the ballot so that they can be top in third year and get the Bodley rooms by the river (not en-suite but massive and stereotypically Cambridge). I came in the bottom half in second year so switched with my friend who wanted a higher position in third year. That meant I had a good choice of en-suites in second year, and although it meant I was lower in the ballot in third year, I didn't care as I had my eye on the en-suite rooms still rather than the Bodleys rooms.

Basically, unless you come right at the bottom of the ballot in second year you'll near enough definitely get an en-suite in second and third year. Most people don't want en-suite anyway. Even if you're bottom in third year, you choose before the second years, and loads of second years get en-suite as well. So it's best to be higher in the ballot in second year if you want en-suite every year. Hope that makes sense.

As for first year, loads of students live in Keynes which is above the bar. Not everyone gets their first choice though, and I know some people who requested Keynes but didn't get it. Generally, though, the majority of people in King's could have had en-suite every year had they wanted it (not that most of them did, though)

Argh just had a think about my interview and yeah... fairly sure I've not got in. Ah well, it was a nice day... I guess I can pray I'll be pooled...

This is especially true seeing as one of our hostels (market) is being renovated and when it come back into circulation next year it will be mostly en suite unlike previously adding about another 30 en suite rooms to the pool

I just assumed all the candidates had been put up in en-suites to show off! I never thought that could be representative of all the rooms...

yep there are 72 en suite rooms (same ones you stayed in) for freshers out of a year of about 120 people

Offer for MML! I applied for 2010 but they offered me a deferred entry for 2011, despite not having expressed desire for a year out in my personal statement, SAQ or interview! Strange but will be good to start when I'm definitely 18 if I meet the conditions!!
