I have heard of doing Pure Mathematics where you don't have to the applied modules. It was on the Edexcel website but it didn't talk about it at length. My school is denying the existence of such a thing so I just wanted to clear this up. Up votes for any replies! Thanks

Yes it can, at least with those examiners that offer pure maths e.g. Edexcel

Yes, for Edexcel, C3 is compulsory for AS pure maths.

No, not for all exam boards that offer pure maths. For AQA for example, the only allowed combination for AS pure maths is C1, C2, FP1.

And how does it work if I want to do normal maths next year?

You need to do two applied modules plus C4 next year. The combinations of applied modules allowed are M1, M2 or S1, S2 or D1, D2 or M1, D1 or M1, S1 or S1, D1.

If you check on the specification for edexcel it says you have to take C1 C2 C3 for an AS maybe because they are compulsory? I can show you the specification if you like

It depends on the board, as above. C1, C2 and C3 are taken for Edexcel AS pure maths.

OCR MEI allows for lots of different combinations. AS pure maths can include FP1, C3, and IIRC a few others. Google 'MEI specification' and it's in the first part of the PDF.
