Heya, I'm going to put this in the Biology exams forum for you as you should get more responses there.

You should also check out the forum to see if there's any other threads there which might be helpful to you! http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=370

Chloroplast structure:

Permeable outer membrane allows movement of small ions.

Less permeable inner membrane with transport proteins embedded allows control over the movement of substances.

Many grana provide a large surface area for photosynthetic pigments, electron carriers, and ATP synthase involved in the light dependent reaction

Arrangement of photosynthetic pigments in photosystems allows maximum absorbance of light energy.

Proteins embedded in the grana hold the photosystems in place.

Photosystems contain photosynthetic pigments which absorb different wavelengths of light - chlorophyll a is found in the primary pigment reaction centre, and other accessory pigments such as carotenoids are also embedded in the photosystem, and channel energy so that a wide range of wavelengths can be absorbed.

The fluid-filed stroma contains enzymes needed to catalyse the light independent stage.

The stroma surrounds the grana, so that the products of the light dependent stage needed in the light independent stage can diffuse easily into the stroma.

Contains chloroplast DNA and ribosomes needed to make proteins needed for photosynthesis.

I hope this helps. (So many words that spell-check hates)
