TORT NEGLIGENCE - causation issues medical negligence please help urgent!

Lucy was walking to Uni whilst listening to her iPod. She crossed the road on a quiet street without checking the traffic and failed to notice a car being driven by Eric. Eric was not concentrating on his driving as he was uploading a selfie
Eric’s car hit lucy as a result of which she sustained a broken pelvis. Her iPod was also destroyed.

Eric called for an ambulance. The telephone operator negligently sent the ambulance to the wrong location and it was delayed by 30 minutes.

On arrival at hospital lucy was seen by Dr Fox, a surgeon on duty in Accident and Emergency, who decided to operate immediately on her broken pelvis. Dr Fox told lucy that she intended to use a new surgical technique that she had recently read about in a medical journal. Most surgeons would not have acted as Dr Fox did but a small number would have. The operation was not successful. lucy now walks with a limp because her pelvis is misaligned. This sometimes results from injuries of the kind she sustained in the accident, but sometimes from mistakes in performing the operation

. Lucy sustained additional damage to the nerves in her right leg, which meant that sometimes it would give way under her. This is a rare side-effect of the surgical technique which was used.
Two months after the surgery lucy was climbing the stairs to her flat when her leg gave way and she fell down two flights of stairs, breaking her neck.

is eric liable for the broken pelvis only? or is he aslo liable for the resulting missaligned pelvis and lucys limp? does the negligent medical treatment break the chain in causation making the surgeon liable for the missaligned pelvis? is the surgeon liable for the broken neck?

Hello Barbie

At the end of the problem, what does the question ask for? Look at the wording careful in the problem and the advice to answer the question. Look at the word negligently for example. Does it say to consider Eric's liability alone?

Who owes the duty to whom?
