higher french

I'm starting to worry about french as I have done very little revision on and seemed to have got worse since the prelim! Especially in listening...is anyone is
n the same boat as me? We can just discuss french on here:smile: also has anyone got past paper listenings as I'm struggling to find any!

Are you doing the new or the old higher ? I'm doing the new one so its bit simpler but yeah I haven't done much revision either:colone:
As to listening same here, all the people in my class have the same problem, we were better before and after the prelims than now. But our teacher said that if you do them at home for few days over and over you'll go back to normal hahah. Listenings themselves I bought the BrightRed Higher French for CFE (its like a greenish one) then there's some listenings on their website and of course we just used the old Higher past paper listenings on the SQA wesbite

The we have the same things to talk about haha  Yeah I have done all of them as well but its apparently just so that you get used to hearing the same words etc. - I bet there's one which I remember the answers to no problemo :colone:
See I haven't memorised those yet, I have only done directed writing so far hahah ! How many paras have you got for it ? I have about 5 - not sure whether that's enough ? But I hope it will be holidays and use of language abroad haha ! Easiest one ever

If you're struggling in listening a tip would be to read through the questions quickly and then before the recording starts make tiny notes about the possible answers to a question -

e.g. Q. Where does Claudia like to go on holiday

your quick note could say place/country/region

i feel that by doing this you're making things easier for your brain to pick up on information

I haven't memorised any writings yet either, but I wasn't planning on doing that. I'm just going to memorise key phrases and sentence starters etc. do you mean 5 paragraphs in a short essay? I usually do 3? One for each question  yes I hope it's holidays as I did my speaking on that so i could use that! Or I quite like ones on school I just hope it isn't healthy eating or something!!

Oh right I see - our teacher told us to mainly memorise most of our paragraphs so that we dont make any mistakes on the day haha. ( it probably varies with the teaching style I guess )
No we had to prepare 5 paragraphs and then on the day use sentences from each of them to form the short essay depending on what the question is hahah - its really odd to explain really :colondollar:

Yeah Ill be fine with holidays most of it is my speaking as well haha, see I would prefer employability question rather than a school one because school ones have much more to cover than within any other topic - I wouldnt mind health so much ? Just hobbies, what you do to keep in form etc ...

Ahh yes sometimes you can answer the question right without even hearing it hahaha ! Like when there are questions on what they liked about Scotland and its always "paysage magnifique"

Yeah it's like your brains programmed to find the answer

I really hope so that its about a job abroad ! Hmm I dont really know how to tackle the short essays being honest it can be anything out of the blue ! As to revision I bought myself like a little cue card thingy that I use for vocabulary and like words that I dont understand or are useful to remember , as to the past papers I only use them for listening...

What topics do you not want to come up ? For me its deffo environment

Hellloooo again hahah
I have a feeling it will be! My teacher seems to think future plans for the short essay. After English I really need to start learning a ton of grammar, and learn the basic structure of a couple of directed writings because we always will mention the journey and accomdation etc..
Oh god same here. Or Human Rights I wouldn't like that. Knowing our luck we will get like crap topics and a solid listening.. To be honest for reading and listening I often just guess and put down loads of detail.

Oh yess that would be great ! Future plans, holidays, trip away with school ( basically holidays with few tweaks of places and activities  )

I wouldnt be surprised if it was: Jean-Pierre is talking about his future job as a politician. He explains how he wants to specialise in Human Rights and gives you an example of cases he will deal with and why he chose this pathway. Mention 3 things
- Copyright of myself ( guzz6 ) not to be used for SQA examinations hahahah

For reading I just tend to kinda translate the whole line and anything that goes with it  Are you going to be doing the translation last ? I usually answer the questions and if the translation is early on and not at the end of the article I tend to translate it, there and then ? Everyone else in my class does it at the end of the exam but Im always scared that I will run out of time and of course its 10 marks !
* Just imagine that as a Listening intro with that man's voice in very Scottish accent and then the name Jean-Pierre being pronounced really French hahaha*

What are human rights and environment? I don't think we've learnt those topics?!? I usually do the directed writing first, then start the reading and if I am not already finished the reading with about 25 minutes to go I move onto the translation

Basically if that comes up we are sorted  Hahahaha I bet your an undercover SQA French marker who is trying to trick me! kidding, i love the scottish accent on the recording its always really strong makes the whole class laugh
Do they give us lined paper or paper with a space for the translation? because if it is just paper il do it in order as i wont know how much space i'll need.
Also we should use this thread to post any useful grammar or phrases that we always use!

I dont think Human Rights is an actual topic haha - I never covered it ? Ed2015 is it a topic ?
I used it as a random outrageous topic that no one would actually understand whilst environment is just word choice associated with it so like noise, traffic, pollution, greenhouse effect, global warming etc

Yeah same here I tend to have more time for the reading if I do directed first hahah ! I just tend to do that transaltion as it appears within the article  So are you ready ?

Oh aye ! Yes ,indeed you just blew up my cover of being a notorious 5th year student at one of Scottish schools
No they will give it as a booklet I believe like for english essays ? and then you just write your answers in- in the booklet  At least thats how our school did it for the prelims
I can totally back that up ! I have quite a few sheets of phrases so I'll try to find them and take a picture of them but for now Imma just focus on Business, Biology and English.
French revision will start between Bio and English hahaha

Ah ok thanks  I was starting to worry we hadn't covered something! I'm not really ready just now but I'm leaving it until after english, as english and biology revision is more difficult right now! But overall it's one of the subjects I'm least worried for as 30% is already done
