Feel guilty for voting Conservative

All I've see is hate for the Tories, which is odd considering they actually won. I've always, rightly or wrongly, believed that you should look after yourself and family first, other people coming a distant second. Never really had time for the unemployed or homeless, I think it's their fault they've got where they have (most of the time anyway.) You work hard, you get rewarded, pandering to those who can't be bothered with benefits etc is just stupid in my eyes.

I also have no problem with the rich, they've earnt it, they can keep it. Why should we tax the rich more? That's not equality.

But now all I'm seeing is "Voting for Tories means you don't give a **** about other people" etc. and it makes me feel real bad. Are the conservatives THAT bad? Or is it just labour supporters throwing their toys out of the pram?

ps my vote counts for nada, Labour always win.

No you shouldn't feel guilty; your vote should be for the party that you feel best represents your views.

no matter who you vote for, someone always will be unhappy with your choice and calls you an ignorant.
You have a full right to your beliefs about homeless (and probably) disabled people too. The thing is, you live in a country where saying that is unacceptable because freedom of speech has ceased to exist.

My advice is, think what you want but dont say it unless you want to get in trouble!

They might be your views but everyone's views are different. That's why we have more than one party, so people have a choice.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism.

You can't go mouthing off ignorantly about the homeless and unemployed, and then cry because someone called you out on your foolishness.

That's precisely the attitude that makes people say "Voting for Tories means you don't give a **** about other people".

Yeah, think I'm quickly learning its easier to just shut up when it comes to politics, no one is ever correct.

Yes but facts do exist. And all the facts point in the direction that the lower classes are going to suffer a hellava lot over the next 5 years, simply because the British people decided to do so.
There is simply no denying that.

I am pretty most of those who voted conservative were aware of that as they voted. Which makes it quite sickening tbh.

Yeah, I get that, it's just that 1000's of people saying that makes me feel a bit ****, but hey, that's my opinion I guess and I'll stick by it. My question was more are the conservatives that bad?

you read far too much right wing BS. most people are not unemployed by choice and as for the homeless, everyones circumstances are different. Not every homeless person is a self inflicted drug addict gambling addict.

As for the rich earning it, true for some, but for many no. Its inherited wealth, they didnt earn it they got it off someone else.

But the Tories are a party for the elite who dont care about the poor or the disabled or the vulnerable. So they fit in with you so from a certain POV your did the right thing in voting or them as they represent you.

oh so Im only allowed to say things that are politically correct? What freedom is that? Its like saying you can wear any shoes you like as long as they are sneakers.

The point is, you might not agree but it doesnt give you the right to call people names. You arent able to proove me wrong without offencing me?

Looks like you've pulled through.

I think actions are much stronger than words. The full force of conservative policies will almost certainly hit you in the face over the coming years. Be prepared.

I leave you with this quote, that seems quite suitable to the occasion,

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Your vote. You vote for whoever represents what you want (or against whoever represents things you don't want if you want). Whatever reason you have that is your reason and it would be wrong to vote for someone you didn't think represented what you find important. Are the conservatives that bad? For some people yes...for others no. Depends where your values lie.

I must say though...Labour don't always win as evident by this election :P

You can say whatever you want, but don't get into a hissy fit if someone calls you out on your BS. That is all I said.

I meant in my constituency! I think the Tories came 4th.

Well that's just a problem with the voting system. I was similar where in my voting system only the conservatives win so I didn't get what I wanted. That's why proportional representation would be a good idea.

I can name a few of my friends who are sitting at home waiting for their dream job. They have not had a job since graduating from uni (2+ years ago) and are applying to graduate schemes and feel any other job is below them. Anyway, they may represent a small minority, as well as not all homeless people are self inflicted drug addicts , I agree ...however, I fail to see the part where it's my problem..?

Yes the rich earn their money, and yes you can inherit it and be born into it, that doesn't mean it's not theirs. It just means they have been dealt a high card in life, lucky them. Why do they need to pay higher tax, mansion tax, tax tax tax to "help" those people who really have nothing to do with them. I'm sure their great great grandfather or whoever who worked hard to start this wealth, started from the bottom.

It's interesting the number of "atheist" and religion slamming threads out here, yet when it comes to a topic like this, no one talks about natural selection.

Mind if I ask you a couple of questions?

1. How do you feel about people who where born disabled with conditions like Autism and Down Syndrome? Are you willing to provide them with some form of income, put them in a work house which caters for their basic needs but treats them like slaves or would you favor something more radical?

2. Are you aware that the tax money spent on public services & infrastructure actually increases the value of top property locations and landlords can gain back a lifetime of tax contributions in just 3-4 years of a economic boom? While those who rent their property pay their taxes and gain nothing?

Are you aware that Winston Churchill was in favor of introducing land taxes to settle this inequality?
High taxes on the wealthy are needed due to this inequality. The landlords blocked land taxes and for years they've been milking the country dry.

3. Do you think its wrong to send benefit claimants to private companies as free labor? Would you rather these people contribute to local community projects which provide goods and services to local tax payers in exchange for a social security rate the unemployed can live on? Restore decency to people who are willing to behave like civilized human beings.

Thank you.

By the way I think Cameron does have a heart but he is under a lot of pressure from the more radical Tories who just want to shove the poor off a cliff.

If you've done whatever research you need to and you've come to an informed decision then you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. Man up OP and be proud of what you believe in. You're in the majority, after all. The losers will always complain and try and find some reason to justify their performance. Labour deserved a kicking in this election and it looks like they've got it.
