Are there any really bad Fresher rooms left?
I heard they got rid of the "ghetto".

The Mitchell Building/Worcester House are the real ghettos of Worcester. Third years are living in the Mitchell Building next year, not sure about Worcester house

Really?!
Does that mean we don't have to grow up after all? :p:

Grow up?! What's that again? :p:

I am loving the Bouncy Castles & picnics approach here. What are the socials like throughout the year?

Many thanks again for answering questions.

Well I can't guarantee it for your incoming lot, as it'll be a different person organising it, but hopefully there'll be bouncy castles! I couldn't go on the bouncy castle as my faculty annoyingly decided to have their welcome meeting at the same time :frown:

There's a themed bop (disco-like thing) at the start and end of every term and cocktail parties/film nights/bar quizzes/etc. throughout the term. Depending on how organised/friendly the older students doing your subject are (and how many people there are doing your subject), there are informal subject get-togethers at restaurants/down the pub

Do you have any information about what Earth Sciences students are doing?

I'm afraid I don't :frown: I think I met one Earth Science student briefly in Freshers Week but we haven't really spoken since.

How friendly you become with the older Worcester students doing your subject really depends on a) their personalities and b) how many people are doing your subject. I remember the Maths students met their older counterparts weeks after we had our Music social

Including joint schools there are around 45 students doing maths at Worcester.

Usually there are 1-2 maths socials a term, and they tend to involve drinks then going out for a curry/italian etc.

The first one in Michaelmas tends to be around 3rd week.

You'll meet your tutors (and all of the other mathmos in your year) for the first time at Freshers' Dinner which is on Wednesday of Freshers' Week.
I stand corrected! Apologies for my exaggeration about when the Maths socials are, my brain has a warped sense of time

Well, that depends when the music socials are  The social tends to be a bit later so that the first years have had a good chance to meet one another.

Well I think we all went for dinner on Thursday of 0th week. There's only 3 (4 max) of us in each year, so we're able to find each other pretty quickly

Hello,
I thought of another question.

The Oxford e-mail address you have, are you allowed to use it to e-mail friends or is it only for official purposes?

Well technically you are only supposed to use the Internet for "academic purposes" but you can use it a bit for other stuff! So yes, you can use it to e-mail friends if you like
Email: - Yes of course you're allowed to use it for personal stuff, I just wouldn't use it to sign up to any porn sites

Earth Scientists: - Earth Sciences is fairly unusual in that its a really small department. Because of this and because of the fact you all go on field trips together means that you'll get to know the rest of your year (throughout the rest of the uni) really well, really quickly. The Worcester Earth Scientists tend to organise pretty regular currys (although there's been a couple of dissenting voices in the last few year who would rather do chinese than curry) that are usually a lot of fun.

Hope this helps.

The old "Ghetto" was the old 24, but 24 now is pretty fit and yes the "ghetto" of the college now is the Mitch/Worc House but they're both being redone for 3rd/4th years next year...

lucky freshers next year, they all have amazing accommodation....

Yes this does help, thank you.

Are you one of the Worcester Earth Scientists then?
If so any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

New question:

How much work do you have over break? :s-smilie:
which one? they call them "vacations" rather than holidays for a reason... you have to vacate your room but you're meant to keep working  :p:

vacations, haha :p:

I just wanted to know, in general, how much work you have while you're not in Oxford.
Is there time left to travel etc. or should I enjoy a lazy life this summer while I still can?

It varies from subject to subject and also depends on when your exams are. I've had exams for half of this term and so we haven't started learning about next years' modules, so I have the whole summer free without much work to do and am hopefully going abroad in September
