    I understand if and R group has a nh2 it will remain nh2 in the Zwitterion and these have neutral charges.
    however if this was in acidic conditions and therefore would act as a base does that mean both nh2 would become nh3+ and the coo- become COOH or what happens to the extra nh2 in the R group under acidic conditions?

    First one NH2 group protonate, then the COO-*, then the other NH2.

    *forming a zwitterion, since there is no overall charge, i.e. 1xNH4+, 1xCOO- & 1xNH2
