Please could somebody explain 8c on this paper to me please,

    I end up with 4x-30 = 4root2 multiplied by x^1/2

I have no idea how to get the x term out of this.

    Many thanks.

ps I know this is an international a level, but that doesn't affect this question not being on my syllabus

You get a nicer quadratic if you substitute 8t^2 and 16t in for x and y in your normal equation. Once you've solved it for t, you can then substitute back to get x and y.
