    Which of these values is more exothermic and why?




    In an exothermic reaction, the reactants are giving out energy to their surroundings and so would appear to be heating up. The enthalpy values given above are a measure of how much energy the elements have gained or lost. Therefore, -600 would be more exothermic then -100 as it shows more energy to have been given out. +50 is endothermic as it shows the elements taking in energy and therefore their surroundings will cool down.
