Question 7.a

I put:

If 2(x-5)^2 + 3 = 0 then
(x-5)^2 = -3/2
As (x-5)^2 cannot be negative, thus f(x) can't have real roots.

The mark scheme says the opposite, as (x-5)^2 > 0 and 3 > 0, f(x) > 0

Would both methods give the marks do you think?

Both are mathematically fine - I'd be shocked if it didn't get the marks. They're basically equivalent.
