I'm still in school so I haven't had much work experience and even though I read the news (economy stuff) I'm a bit unsure what exactly I would get asked in an interview that would require commercial awareness and the sort of detail I'd be asked to go in?

At the moment just work experience so they don't expect much but when I'm at uni I'm hoping to do internships and stuff at financial firms which say that I need commerical awareness

When you say financial firms, do you mean investment banks or more accountancy/insurance companies?

I think the word you're looking for is "assurance". Please don't call the Big Four an insurance company, especially in your interview. You'll make them laugh and it's unlikely you'll progress much further.

Hi I work for ICAEW and we run sessions on commercial awareness so can tell you a bit about it.
First you should watch some videos on Youtube about commercial awareness. EY have a few on there.
Second here are some examples of what kind of questions a firm may ask:
How do you keep up to date with business?
What story in the business press interests you?
What will happen to an organisations finances if interest rates go up?
What is the FTSE 100? Did the FTSE go up or down yesterday?
What was our share price this morning? What area of our business interests you and why?
How have you demonstrated commercial awareness in the past?
What changes would you make to our business? Which products or service lines would you cut - why?

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply! some of those questions seem fine but others seem quite out of my range at the moment...I have no idea about interest rates and stuff like the FTSE 100!

You can easily find out about them on google. If you have an iPhone on the home screen if you swipe down a drop down menu comes down and they have stock prices on it for the FTSE 100 and it tells you if it's up or down
