Yes, another one of these threads! Sorry.

I'll be 24 in October and I've never been in a serious relationship (so ronery).

I was hopeless with girls all the way through school and college and my insecurities/shyness have stuck with me even though I'm looking after myself a lot better (eating healthy/gym etc). My sexual encounters are few and far between lol, I would hazard a guess that most 17/18 year olds have had more action than me. Feels bad man.

Now I'm not one to feel sorry for myself and I do have quite a positive outlook on life but the whole subject of females is a massive area of insecurity for me. It's not like I've not had the opportunity to enter into a relationship but It normally ends up with either me failing to make a move in time or the girl likes me but I'm not really into her. I just have low confidence, and I'm lacking in experience (not a good combination).

The only times I really mix with females is when I've had a skinful on a Saturday night. I don't even enjoy going out/drinking that much but what else is a single dude supposed to do on a Saturday night? If I didn't go out I'd be getting approx 0% interaction with women. The place where I work is like 90% blokes so not going to meet anyone there. I've dipped my toe in online dating but most of the sites are complete garbage.

Any advice is welcomed, if you're interested just post in here and I'll send you a PM with a picture (the picture has a filter on it, I'm paler irl).

PLZ HELP, how do I get out of this rut?
This is totally me (except for the gym part) but I'm the female version.....

You're still only 23 and have such a long life ahead of you....the right person will walk into your life when the time is right for you...for the time being just relax about it and take time to build on your confidence

    It's all pure chance.

One thing I will say - it seems much harder to meet women in the UK. Whenever I have been abroad, it seems much easier...

I have only ever had one girlfriend. Since then, I have had the odd encounter with women. Meeting the one girlfriend and all the other encounters with women were just pot luck.

End of the night in a bar, thinking of going home. Friend tells me to cheer up and get myself a drink. So I go to the bar... then before I know it I am having a conversation with someone. Invite her back to our table, spend the rest of the night with her.

There is just no planning these things. All you can do is maximise your chances by getting out there more. But that is easier said than done, I can sure sympathise with that.

Hahahaha seems there is more of us than you would think!

I will hopefully have a long life ahead of me but time is marching on and I just get the feeling life is passing me by sometimes. I need to get off the internet more I think.

    --------------------------------------

Just to clarify my original post. I do enjoy alcohol but I'm not into the whole "going out clubbing" thing. Last week I drank 2/3 pints every day after work, just sat on my own in my room, I don't know if I'm developing a problem.

I would try and go teetotal but it's very difficult to cut it out.

Try and spend as much time with new people and exploring what is around you...make the most of everyday...life is much more enjoyable with people than alone! Trust me that the right person will walk into your life when you least expect it and the time will be right

    I trust you

I don't fully open up to people really, it's like I put up barriers. I've no idea why I do that.

Not many people know what I'm truly like, it's not that I'm fake, I just have reservations when I meet new people.

I've even thought about going travelling alone for a few months, it might help me grow as a person, it would certainly get me of the rut, I'm sure!
The best way to learn to swim is to be throw into the deep end and you either drown or get to the side....by swimming. The theory has allowed me to get over a lot of social and physical fears. I learnt to drive properly by going to pick up my first car 80 miles away and driving it back by myself! I was scared to do Kickboxing as a teenager as I didn't have any friends to go with me, went by myself, made friends!

The travel idea is fantastic, not only do you actually get to do what about 90% of teenagers/young adults keep saying, develop some stories and mainly you'll be so far out of your comfort zone, that you'll HAVE to socialise. My friend came back from a multi country backpack holiday and his top advice is, always ask direction from other tourists, they might be going their too! Carry a lighter and smokes with you, why do you have smokes when you don't smoke? Some little Asian man gave you them.

Reservations are fine.....you can't be confident around every new person you meet. You don't seem to be reserved online....you have opened up quite a bit.....I find myself doing this too. I get nervous in person but online it isn't as bad because I know I cannot be seen so I'm not judged as badly haha

Cheers for that pal. Fair play with the car, I could never have done that! (Or could I, if I had tried? Hahaha)

I think I will go travelling, the job I'm stuck in the moment is a dead end, so nothing to lose really.

Yeah I get, on the surface I may come across reasonably confident, it's more of a deep root thing where I don't think I'm good enough. I partially blame my dad for that but I'm not using him as an excuse, lots of people have had far worse upbringings than me.
