I'm really stressed about my Grandpa. He's turning 80 this year, can move well without a walking frame etc. In about a week he's going to talk to a specialist about what to do because he has these lumps in his oesophagus. They don't know if they're cancerous yet, but I'm really scared they are. They're getting larger and I've done some research and apparently if he was diagnosed he would have a 4% chance of living for another 5 years. He and I are best pals and I am in tears at the thought of losing him. Other relatives of mine who had cancer (in other places) only lived for less than 2 years since diagnosed. I'm really scared but my mother and father said not to worry

Bless you. I'm on the verge of tears now because this is reminding me of my grandfather, he and I were very close also and I would worry about his health. My adivce would be not to research because it always ends in a lot of worry no matter what, and sometimes it is unnecessary. At the moment nothing is certain, I know it is easier said than done but try to remain positive/neutral until you get the results, keep yourself busy/distracted so you're not thinking about it too much and spend time together with your grandpa because that will make him happy and you. Naturally you will be worried but just try to remind yourself that nothing is certain yet. His appointment is soon, so that's good. Do you know what will they be doing? How is your grandpa? What is his mood like at the moment? Does he live alone? Best wishes to you and your grandpa.

Thankyou very much, I really appreciate your help. At the moment it looks like he might be getting laser surgery, but my grandpa isn't worried and is happy as usual. He lives with my grandma and we try to visit the two of them often.

Been in a similar situation recently several times. My Grandpa is now in a care home. And last summer my grandad was in hospital for several months, now having carers come 3/4 times a day to visit. For saying how close family we are, it is very difficult and very worrying.

It's ok to worry but remember it won't change the situation so try not to too much. He is getting the best care and no more can be done. Remember that. Make the most of all time spent with him and build as many happy memories as you can. You'll find that also doing these happy things will make you forget about the possibility... :hugs: Feel free to PM me if you want to talk in more details. Stay positive.

Make the most of the short time you have left with him.
