    would Philosophy with English be an ok choice? Assuming PPE would be best but I don't have the grades for Oxford!

    Politics-based jobs and careers usually, almost universally, don't have any particular pre-requisite subject of study; the exception perhaps being pollsters.

    What you'll need more is relevant experience: anything that shows that you're competent; showing a keen passion for current affairs will also help, surely.

    If you want to be an MP? Okay, you also need a democratic mandate; that might be a tad harder to get.
