May have accidentally got my colleague in trouble :( watch

Basically I said in a passing comment something that someone did at work and I didn't think she had done anything wrong in doing what she did.
Then another colleague turned round and was like she's gonna get in trouble now because of what you've said and then I realised.
The issue is to do with cashing up tills (no money has been stolen or anything dw) and I don't know what the consequences are of what she did. I regard her as a friend of mine so I'm worried the situation is gonna turn awkward and she will hate me.
I wasn't trying to throw her under the bus at all or anything like that, the last thing I want is her in trouble! I genuinely did not know that the thing she did wasn't allowed. The person who heard is likely to snitch to the main manager tomorrow and i'm dreading the outcome

Any advice about what to do?
