To lose weight:

Eat sensibly
Do regular exercise

Diets do NOT work, the second you drop the diet you will put the weight back on.

ok i did set up another thread asking what other foods i could eat and still be healthy but no one has replied. because other than fruit and veg what is healthy

Reply 4

you see how we are meant to have 5 portions of fruit or veg a day, does this have to be diffrent kinds of fruit and veg or can it be the same , like 5 tangerines or 5 apples etc

Reply 5

it's supposed to be different to get a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. Any amount of fruit juice just counts as one.

Reply 6

Its not really that much either for something to count as a portion. Here you go: http://www.5aday.gov/what/index.html

Diets do not work. Every single person has a unique metabolism, and different foods, and amounts of foods have different effects on different people.

So there is no universal diet that will work for everyone, and there's no point trying hundreds of different diets until you find one that suits you, because the likely hood is that you wont enjoy it, and it'll be bad for you in the long run, not to mention the fact that most diets work on a temporary basis and the weight goes right back on when you're done.

Eating sensibly doesn't mean eating ONLY "healthy" foods. There's no such thing as "unhealthy food", food only starts getting unhealthy if you eat too much or one particular type of it. You should eat every type of food, fruit, fish, vegetables, sweets, meats, carbs. Just make sure you eat the last 3 in moderation. Do not snack on meat/carb/sweet. Snack on fruit if you can. Another technique that helps speed up your metabolism is to eat smaller meals, more often. Your metabolism will constantly be working to break down your small meals, and will get used to constantly working. Which means that even when you're not eating, your metabolism will still be burning away, which will give you more energy etc.

If you want to lose weight, then no matter what you eat, and how little you eat, it wont make a difference unless you do some exercise. To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. In other words you could have half an apple a day for the rest of your life, but if you sit around doing nothing all day, you'll still put on weight. So do some cardio workouts now and then (go for a run, play some fast sports like football or racket sports or something, go to the gym).

Another thing you could do is build some muscles. Muscles are active tissue, which means even if you aren't really using them, they still burn energy... So if you have more muscle, then your metabolism will gobble up calories a lot quicker. And just because you're female doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't build muscles. Obviously don't take it too far and end up with a six pack and massive bicep... but you can tone your stomach, gain stronger leg muscles, even working on your pecs(chest) can help firm your breasts etc. It's all good .

So in conclusion:
Get some sort of a cardio exercise and do it regularly.
Eat whatever you want, just don't eat excessive amounts of meat, carbs or sugar... If you feel the need to snack, make it fruit or veg.
Eat less, more often.
Build muscles.

Losing weight is a relatively simple process, all these diets do it make it more complex than it need be.

The fact that you believe the above casts some serious doubt about your qualifications for posting in a thread like this.

Totally wrong. You burn calories through just existing - more calories than half an apple per day would provide you with, so you'd lose weight eating that few calories.

Oh, and why should we make sure we include sweets in our diet? Being well rounded doesn't mean eating junk food as well as decent stuff, it means eating foods from all the different food groups and eating each of them in the right kind of proportions.

"through just existing"?? LOL.

Yes, we do burn calories from our normal body functions, and active tissue like muscle using up calories. We do use more calories in doing this, than can be provided by half an apple a day.

IT WAS AN EXAMPLE. Ok, I could have drawn it a bit more clearly and more scientifically accurate.

But the point I put across still holds much water, you can not lose any amount of significant weight without hauling some ass and doing some exercise along with eating sensibly.

And when I said sweets, I meant anything that includes sugar(because believe it or not, that's what makes things sweet:O), seeing as we need sugar to function, dear. And like I said, don't eat sweet foods in excess, eat them in moderation.

Why are you reiterating MY POINTS as if I said the opposite???

Well you must have been eating SERIOUS amounts of excess before you started eating less.

And your telling me that during your time of losing 25 kilos you never done any exercise whatsoever???

The fact that you think I meant it literally casts some serious doubt over your proficiency as an English student.

And sorry, I had no idea there was a test you had to sit to post a reply?

I'm sorry, but I stand by what I said - it's a load of rubbish whether you take it literally or figuratively. If you eat fewer calories than you burn every day then you will lose weight whether you exercise or not. If I burn 2000 calories a day without exercising and eat 1500 calories worth of food then I will lose weight. It's not rocket science. If I exercise and therefore burn 2500 calories a day and eat 2200 calories of food I will also lose weight (albeit probably more slowly than in the first scenario).

Well if you, as a male, were to eat 1500 a day, that would be deemed unhealthy. The healthy amount of calories to be taken daily, by a man, is 2000. The healthy amount for women, is 1800. Because this is approximately what we burn from simple functioning.

So, in order to stay within the healthy boundaries and still manage to lose weight, you're going to have to consume the amount of energy necessary to function(2000/1800 calories), and then do some exercise on top of that.

Healthy according to....?

Anyway, being overweight is unhealthy and for many people who are overweight I imagine that eating fewer than 2000 calories (or 1800 calories) is the lesser of two evils when compared with being overweight.

The fact still remains that it is perfectly possible to lose weight without exercising. In fact I think that diet is more important than exercise regimes.

Like everyone has said on here, dieting generally doesn't work. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you must change your lifestyle. just organise half an hour or so of good exercise into your day, lay off the junk and processed foods, eat sensibly with foods from all the food groups in appropriate amounts and eat at regular mealtimes - starving yourself all day and then bingeing at the end of the day will definitely not help you. If you make sure you are eating foods that you like but that are also healthy, and at regular times you will find it a lot easier to stick to and it can become a way of life rather than a fad. Good Luck

i seriously doubt that 25 kilos is the weight of a small child!
