I'm going to study in Reading for 2014 undergraduate. I'm wondering is 400 pounds enough ( excluding rent ) per month? Included transportation and phone bills as well as going out ( sometimes ) and shopping ( not often ) ?

    Hello!

Yes I think £400 will be enough for living at Reading. Monthly and weekly budgets differ from person to person but here are some particulars of Reading.

    Buses- £1.40 single, £2.40 return
    Clubs- £3-£5
    Taxis- £6 one way
Set aside money for societies (this varies but will normally be at a subsidised rate depending on event and numbers)

For travel, it is quite easy to walk to town or travel by bike to cut down costs. To earn some extra money there are many opportunities for part time jobs at university or in town that can fit around your studies. There is a job shop in the union as well as regular posts from the career offices. Also, I would say that for Freshers week maybe set aside a bit of extra money as you'll be doing lots of activities!

Hope this helps- feel free to ask more questions!
