Don't take it to heart, Igor, it's a game...Gnostic is an interesting person..he just likes to provoke....he wants you to say something lively in return...

yea, I figured that out. and I don't mean to take it to the heart. but won't let the bastard talk whatever he wants without making him look silly either

Another thing: you will never catch a Russian smiling. They are the most miserable people on earth. Should we be surprised, then, to learn that they were the first to succumb to (or, rather, manifest) communism?

Ahh god, this I do agree with. Customer service in Russia is just so terrible, someone with extensive knowledge of Russia/n told me at the airport that they're not supposed to smile whilst working, and that's because it gives the impression they're enjoying their work a little too much - which apparently is frowned upon. Ahh with that sort of logic, life for the Russians is going to prove a little difficult in the service sector! Still doesn't prevent them from joking about amongst themselves though.

I actually like Gnostic and I'm sure you're a nice person, too, Igor...here I am in my new role as Mr. Diplomat...

Heh, well, I suppose that's just cultural, not smiling that much. I read somewhere that people in the service sector in Greenland, for example, have to undergo training to learn to smile while working. The country doesn't really have a tradition of smiling publicly at all. So it's a matter of what they expect from other people in different situations. Who are we to force everyone to smile like the stereotypical American?

Apart from this small off-topic remark, I'll stay away from this thread as it seems to be getting too heavy...

"pseudo-intellectual" seems to be a buzz word around UKL.

Nope, just a word used often to describe you. Don't try to dismiss accurate description of your tedious self.

Stalin murderded tens of millions, not so long ago in our history, more than Hitler, and I don't think Marx would have turned up his nose at it. He might have thought it was a bit crude, a bit over the top, but only a bit.

Thats nice. Unfortunately, I cant think of many people who care about what you think. Especially when its unsubstantiated crap.

Better a pseudo-intellectual than a pseudo-Englishman (I’ll sooner recognise Rhodesia’s change of name than recognise you northern Vikings as Englishmen).

Ooooohhh, you're on the ball today! I think you'll find very few people who care what you do and dont define as an Englishman.

I know!! Gnostic likes me bitchy!!
Hewins, Gnostic - the frequency with which you two fellows pop up in the same conversations is rather alarming and indeed quite uncanny. Is there more to it than would meet the eye?

I hope there is two of them, coz when I get to London in September I was truly hoping Gnostic and Hewins could show me all there favourite spots. And hopefully we can become best friends. Gnostic and Hewins can go off to LSE all day and be all big and clever, whilst I stay at home and cook the tea for them and look after the kids. Oh the fun we'll have!!!!

How about this, Gnostic will continue to be an annoying twat until people stop arguing with him. So, instead of getting worked up about his comments, ignore him and he'll go away and start doing something normal 21+ year olds should be doing with their time, i.e. working.

That's actually quite funny... well done.....keep it going....and yes we are different people...I think Gnostic likes to tease, heavily, but I wouldn't generally come out with the sort of remark he produces...

3/it's not friendly: it's no good pretending that people are always willing to pop round for a coffee and a chat about setting up a save - the - badger website....everybody's too damn busy.....

I think people are pretty much the same wherever u go....u really can't say "It's not freindly"...

Although i can see why people are not willing to "pop round for a coffee and chat" lol

I don't think it's friendly. Oxford was all about friendship and being sociable, but it was still a disappointment in other respects...It' s stimulating, LSE, but not friendly...people need a reason to talk to each other in Houghton Street...I like the humour of 'I can see why people are not willing to pop round for a coffee and chat...' Humour is fine...

It's just too heavy for people...they don't see the playfulness in it...they just get mad in response and that makes dull reading...

Humour is the trait of a dying breed (as evidenced by the departure of a certain forum member). :frown:
