Hi, I'm quite new to TheStudentRoom (so please don't hate me if I do anything wrong).

Recently, I've had a complete potential career change from medicine (doctor, nurse.etc.) to an editor, journalist or anything in the book industry. I am currently doing my GCSE's and will be going on to do the relevant subjects at A-Level (I'm not sure whether or not this is relevant, but, I am within the higher bracket of students streamlined for Russell Group Universities). I want the best chance possible of achieving my dream job and university - as so many of us do.

But, my question is what jobs would be available for a 16 year old to do part-time around books, publishing or anything like that? All I can think of is book shops and libraries, but they are currently not hiring for part-time staff or are looking for supervising positions. I also have no work experience which could be a massive struggle - should I look into volunteering for experience first? I would really appreciate anyone's suggestions and thoughts.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I would recommend that as you have no experience you could start of work as a volunteer. This would look good on your cv and also if you are good at your job you might be taken on especially for busy periods like weekends and school holidays. Good luck
