So I just watched the 2nd series episode 1. I wasn't expecting much but what I found was a Cannabis dealer claiming Disability Living Allowance for memory loss.

This is great. Now every person with genuine mental health problems is going to be branded as a pot smoker.

This is going to far.

I think the Tories also need to stand up against channel 4 for putting across the message that disabled people are just fakers. We need genuine representation of disabled people going though austerity.

I don't want to live in a divided nation but the way things are going I am thinking of leaving England in the next few years. I've had enough of this rubbish.

If you don't want to live in a divided nation then stop trying to create division.

I'm glad you're leaving. Any idea where you're going?

There are a lot of fakers but I agree with you that people should not lose sight of genuine disabled people who often want to work but can't.

The irony is Scandinavia is further gone than the UK, but as you wish. Also, Hitler's Germany was divided? Right, and the socialists weren't...

Good luck in that one.

Norway has a lavish welfare state for those that need it, but is socially intolerant of those that don't need it claiming off it.

Do they have a need for fantasists in Norway?

No. Merely highlighting that people such as yourself have a hidden agenda.

I enjoyed it when those journalists were chased by a guy with a paint bucket. I felt sorry for the depressed man and all those who had lost hope.

How is the O.P trying to create division? He is merely stating his dislike of 'benefits street' which is just a propaganda tool used by the government to justify welfare cuts and demonise people on benefits when £74 billion of the welfare bill (47%) is spent on pension in contrast to £13 billion on disability living allowance.

Why don't we have a tax evasion street, which would be more relevant since tax evasion has cost the economy estimated £85 billion a year. http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Docume...ap2014Full.pdf

That show in itself is an exaggeration of the negativity surrounding benefits, and just makes others look bad. Looking at one or two streets in the entirety of the UK is hardly representative.

I'm not for people faking illness or whatnot to get money, but not everyone is like that, and this show just makes people look bad.

The media constantly just show the bad side of people on benefits, rather than those that genuinely need help.

Yep, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for the Tories to do anything with their welfare cut proposals on the horizon, with programs like Benefits Street and inevitably more sensationalist DM articles highlighting the activities of the minority of scroungers and fakers, they have all the propaganda they need to carry out the cuts without too much opposition and most the country seems to have turned against people on benefits anyway already. Of course benefit fraud is terrible, but like already said, programs like Benefits Street exaggerates that and paints an inaccurate picture and the genuine claimants will suffer because of that sadly.
