I am so passionate to do research, I have just completed my Bachelors year of my MEng in Software Engineering with two trimesters left before I graduate in summer 2016 with a Masters! I have already got to the interview stages of a PhD! But they say even though my proposal was very good, I had people against with masters and research experience. So they told to get more research experience so I am doing a masters starting in September of this year.

I have been asked to do a presentation in collaboration with a university academic support staff member. Will this boost my chances and prospects of getting accepted on a PhD?

No matter what you do PhD is damn competitive to get onto. In this regard do whatever you reasonably can to demonstrate your dedication, interest and capabilities in academia.
