    Hi,

I'm 15 years old and in need of earning my own money to support myself as money is tight in our family and therefore I want to be able to support myself and not use up what we have.

I know that WHSmiths offer sales assistant jobs to 14+ year olds, but it's a really tricky job to get as so many people want it. I was wondering if anyone knew of any high street stores that employ 15 year olds for summer/weekend jobs? Or if you live in Birmingham, any small businesses that may be willing to hire me?

    Thanks.

You need to be 16 due to legislation. Any employer won't want the extra commitment and trouble of employing a child (there are so many laws restricting work hours, breaks, school related requirements, etc.. start applying for jobs once you're 16.

Lots and lots of places. Most retail shops will hire from 16+. The only thing you might encounter is where age restricted products might be sold or due to heath and safety laws for under 18s, for example some supermarkets, or places where employers might be endangered like factories.

Is there any takeaway shops near you? Like a Chinese, chip shop, etc because they usually hire 14/15 year olds.. Granted it's not the most ideal job but it's better than nothing.

Yeah but I kind of want to work in someplace safe. cafes are usually a lot more safer but I don't know of many nice ones in Birmingham

You're probably better just applying for takeaway shops as of now and at least it could gain you some experience? It'll be hard to get a 'nice' job if you're under 16
