How do you know the difference between A band, I band, Z line etc What do they mean????

First of all what you need to know is that;
-Isotropic is the LIGHT band
-Anisotropic is the DARK band

The reason that myofibrils appear light and dark is because both these bands (isotropic and anisotropic) do NOT overlap.
The Z-line is just basically the dark line at the centre of every isotropic (light) band.

This topic can get quite complicated but hopefully this made at least some sense. :smile:


Thank you! But what does that mean - how does that relate to myosin and actin?
