If Arsene Wenger is a specialist in failure then Gerrard definitely has to be. Guy has been frauding it hard and has been past it since 2009, besides a good spell in the second half of 13/14 he's been played for sentimentality reasons like with Casillas at Real Madrid.

Gerrard has won 1 trophy since 2006 and that was the league cup, he has not provided in the key moments either.

Fact is that Gerrard would not get close to the amount of games he would get at Liverpool if he was at any of the clubs above him in the premier league table.

At international level he's not been any better, was an absolute liability during this world cup and was partially responsible for the Suarez goal.

He has still be instrumental to his club's success over the last couple years , trophies wise, he might not be renowned but for attributes he brings to the table as a midfielder result in him being one of the best English midfielders.

No relevance to the actual point of this thread and attempts to rile up other posters.

Bar for the 4 month period in late 13/14 season as the DM he's been quite average and there have been calls for Gerrard to be dropped for some time.

So he's past his prime, well done. Doesn't mean he's a "specialist in failure".

He is beyond his best; he is similar to Lampard in a sense.

Gerrard was still massively important to our cup runs in 2011/12 under Kenny. I think he became disillusioned with Hodgson's era, and there were question marks regarding his effort during that stage I recall. He was England's best player at the 2010 World Cup, though. He managed to notch every England assist at Euro 2012, too.

Most of your points I do agree with but I don't think you can question Gerrard's commitment to England. He was the only player who turned up at the 2010 WC and had a good tournament in 2006. I've always thought that if Gerrard had been fit for the 2002 World Cup (along with Gary Neville), England would have won the tournament.

He's been a complete liability for a while now and if he was Stefano Gerrardinho from Italy he would have been shipped out a while back. The United game was a perfect example, they'd have been much better off bringing Lucas on. Rodgers seemed to be afraid of dropping him in the early part of this season too.

Agreed. He was arguably one of the only players to turn up during McLaren's era, too.

The media circle jerk around slippy g is ridiculous and unbearable. Guy never won a PL medal, was a notorious cheater and really dropped off in quality after 2009. Good riddance slippy.

Stampy has been nothing but a liability, in particular the past 2 years bar a bunch of pens and set pieces he started scoring regularly in the second half of last season.
