Gerrard is a specialist in failure.

But Gerrard in the CL final tho. Forget everything else. Base his entire footballing career on that one game:rolleyes:

His career as a whole was bigger and better than Scholes', hence why he never got in the England team ahead of him. You're only young though, wouldn't expect you to know much so no worries.

Pretty sure Lampard's 'illustrious' career only consisted of deflected goals and penalties.

Not expecting that from you. How many open play goals has crease head scored in the last 3 seasons?

Yeah because Gerrard achieved so much with England. Lead them to glory on numerous occasions. Seriously man, get off his ****.
Career was bigger than Scholes. LOL, mate you're just embarrassing yourself.
Just a worse Barry Ferguson.

Which doesn't mean anything because Sven's England team was only picked on the basis of whoever was the biggest ''name''.

Also aren't you like 19? You'd have barely started school when Scholes retired from England.

Scholes would've reached 150 caps if Sven didn't make him leave :frown:

Gerrard was the bigger name because he was the better player. It's no good saying players like Scholes don't recognition, because Xavi and Pirlo get arselicked as DLP's.

Rk is 16/17 iirc, I can remember football from around 2003 so I caught Gerrard's peak and Scholes essentially. Gerrard was a much better player, guy was 2nd or 3rd in Balon D'or which Paul didn't get near to. Both wonderful players though.

Yes cos that was solely Gerrard's fault  One of the few who actually turned up for England anyway.

Age doesn't really matter when appreciating one footballer and the other. IT seems as if you think I'm slating Gerrard. Don't get me wrong, he was a quality player but the fact that he didn't make the PL team of the decade and Scholesy did speaks volumes. He aged like a fine wine unlike Gerrard who got worse.
One thing that Scholes really ******* up on was him coming back from retirement.

Irrelevant to the argument considering we're talking peaks. Yes age does matter as it means you can't judge players peaks from the past (e.g I can't judge Zidane or fat Ronaldo).

So Gerrard wasn't named in team of the decade despite being in top 3 of Balon D'or, and being in the PFA team of the year 8 out of 10 years in the 2000's  shows what a load of balls that team must be. Also won UEFA club footballer of the year, got in Euro 2012 team of the tournament, FIFA team of the year 3 times and a CL MOTM medal. He's far more illustrious than Scholes and only a blinkered fool would disagree.

I think Lampard's a wonderful player - and I've always rated him - but he does have a tendency to either score a) deflected long-range efforts, b) penalties or c) arriving late into the box, having the ball pulled back to him and blasting it in.

I genuinely can't recall a Lampard goal that wasn't one of the aforementioned.

And that's no luck. Doing that season after season shows incredible reading of the game, immense timing to get on the end of the ball and obviously technique to stick it in.

He chipped Valdes in the Nou Camp.
What is the whole point of football and what is primary aim of most players/clubs? It's to win trophies. Therefore players/managers/clubs who have the quality and resources to challenge and win titles, are obviously deemed as failures if they don't. So as good and influential as Gerrard is, he and liverpool have underachieved and are therefore failures. You can't argue against this.

Top 3 specialists in failures are Arsenal and Wenger, Liverpool and Gerrard and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid because they've literally spent close to a billion pound and won one league title in the last six years and one CL in the last 12...

They've hardly even made it to the finals in those 12 years too.

Wenger and Arsenal, well... that goes without saying
Lol you guys are doing everything in your books to discredit Stevie it's a bit sad.

What club do you support btw?
(edited 8 years ago)
Chelsea a step up when they tried to sign Gerrard? Liverpool are a historic club going through a rough patch, much like Milan now and Juventus 10 years ago
Chelsea are the original money club but I respect their achievements, however I don't like it when their plastic ex-United fans from London disrespect a legend of the game
A good player, but the media fanfare has been ridiculously over the top. MOTD have never shut up about him for months. I don't recall remotely the same level of fanfare for people like Giggs, Scholes, Lampard, or even Fergie. Stood out most when playing in a mediocre team (as the numerous references on this thread to McClaren's England demonstrate).
