What's the difference? ¯\(º_o)/¯

Ok, so I want to apply to one of the unis in the UAL (since they have a high reputation and such) for my Art Foundation.

The thing is, I don't have a clue what is the difference between them all, what the strengths and weaknesses of each one are, etc.

At the moment I'm considering CSM as my 1st and Chelsea as my second, but what about Camberwell and Wimbledon? Also, any advice area-wise? (nice areas? reccommended places? crime rate? etc.)
im at chelsea, even people as csm say chelsea rawks....chelsea all the way!

the area around csm is way more crowded than chelsea, chelsea is far more relaxed, you can actually walk down the street with your art stuff without being crushed. in terms of the factilities, chelsea (where i am now) seems to be a little better off than csm, though both class sizes are quite big. well, very big. csm will make you specialise into very specific areas, for example from after xmas at csm you choose areas such as illustration, drawing, jewellery etc. they're very specific, where as at chelsea the areas you choose are pretty much just design, media and fine art. within fine art there is a loose separation between sculpture and painting, and each area does do this too, but it is much less clear cut as csm. it depends if you'd prefer a broader or more specific course.

as far as i understand, both chelsea and csm require you to put them down as first choice or they do not consider your application. for a second choice you'd have to put down something like wimbledon or camberwell. also, with the application procedure, csm require a verbal group interview about your work, most of the other colleges just look at your portfolio.

good luck with whatever you choose, i hope this was a little help.

hey..Im doing art foundation at London college of fashion. The foundation campus is in Hackney, which was voted/has been named the worst place to live in the country and i live in the borough next to it -Tower Hamlets, which was named the second worst place to live in the country! lol!) But to be honest.. its not that bad.
The college in Hackney is alright. But there aren't lots of facilities. There are about 450 students i think which is far too many for the size of the college (however they're not in all at once because of diff timetables).
It seems to be quite disorganised at times too. However, the course is good. After the exploratory stage which is general projects we move on to our pathways...there's a choice of: Womenswear, Menswear, Textiles, Theatre, Womenswear with accessories or Footwear and Accessories.

Go to the open days if you haven't already.
And get applying early.

yer i agree with jainie.. if you dont put the college you want to go to as your number 1 choice its highly unlikely they will accept you
so think carefully

p.s chelsea all the way!

hello
i'm a foundation student at csm. i enjoy it loads, the course is varied and you're free to do what you want, although obviosly some pathway courses are more popular than most i.e. fashion.

if you want to do:
fine art - i hear chelsea is more fine art based, but csm, camberwell, wimbledon are meant to be too?!
fashion - csm and lcf
graphics/visual studies - csm/chelsea and lcc
3d design - no idea sorry!

best advice is to check out the different courses and visit the open days! i was advised by my art teacher to apply to chelsea because 'people at st martins are snobby, its over crowded, and i won't get attention' but after visiting both, i preferred the feel of csm more so applied and got in!
the people here are lovely, they took in less pupils this year and i as much attention as i want.

dunno if that helps!

hey, I've applied to CSM and Camberwell for Art Foundation Degrees, i wanna do Textile design after. But want to go to UAl so bad, but i'm very worried about the whole potfolio thing. i went for theopen day at CAmberwell, they said inculde work that you have done outside of school, but because i do the I.B its demanding.
If anyone can give me portfolio advice, like what things you inculded when you submitted your that would be fab.
Thanxs
