lennie is compared to a bear, he is described as having "paws" this is to emphasize his physical premise. And maybe Steinbeck is commenting on his intelligence and saying that he is nit very clever.

Curley is described as flopping like a fish when Lennie grabs hold of his hand, and so is Curley's wife when she is killed.
Lennie is also described as something like 'a terrier bringing his ball back to his owner' when George asks him to hand him the mouse

Also I saw Curley as almost a territorial feline animal, poised and ready to attack. In chapter 2 it says ' He stiffened and went into a slight crouch' when he first sees Lennie and George, almost as a lion or tiger would when analysing the situation before attacking. He then 'lashes' his body around when George threatens him, kinda like a feline animal suddenly lashing out at its prey.

This is abit more in-depth but hope it helps
